Old gold exchange calculator
Type the weight and the tested purity to see the fine gold, then its value at an old gold rate. Useful before you sell or exchange, and at the counter.
Weight × purity × old gold rate Weigh without stones or other non-gold parts.
From your purity test (touch or XRF), not just the stamp.
Starts at the example 24K rate. A jeweller buys old gold at their own rate, usually lower. Ask them for theirs and type it here.

How it's worked out
How old gold is valued
Only the gold counts. First the fine gold: the weight × the purity it tests at. Then the value: fine gold × the jeweller's old gold rate.
That rate is the jeweller's own. It's usually lower than their selling rate, because old gold has to be melted and refined before it can be used again.
22K chain · 10 g · tests at 91.6% Worked example
An example, step by step
A customer brings in a 22K chain that weighs 10 g. It tests at 91.6%. The jeweller's old gold rate is ₹98,000 per 10 g of fine gold (an example, not today's rate).
- 1 Fine gold 10 g × 91.6% 9.160 g
- 2 Old gold value 9.160 g at ₹98,000 per 10 g ₹89,768
Making charges and stones from the original bill aren't part of it. Only the gold is valued.

Questions about old gold
Weight × tested purity gives the fine gold. Fine gold × the jeweller's old gold rate gives the value. The example above shows both steps.
Each jeweller sets their own old gold rate, usually below their selling rate, because old gold has to be melted and refined before it can be used again. Some jewellers also deduct for testing or melting. Ask what rate and deductions they use.
The gold content measured by a purity test, such as a touch (tunch) test or an XRF machine. It can differ from the karat the piece was sold as. Older pieces made before hallmarking sometimes test lower.
No. Old gold is valued on its fine gold only. Making charges and stones from the original bill aren't part of the value.
Many jewellers take old gold against a new piece: its value comes off what you pay for the new one. Ask your jeweller how they handle an exchange.
