How it's worked out
How a gold price is worked out
A jewellery price has three parts. The metal: weight × the rate for its karat. The making charge: a percentage of the metal value, or a flat amount. And GST: 3% on metal and making together.
In the same state, GST shows as CGST 1.5% + SGST 1.5%. For a customer in another state, it's IGST 3%. The total is the same either way.

An example, step by step
Say 24K gold is ₹1,00,000 per 10 g (a round number to keep the maths easy, not today's rate). You're pricing a 22K chain that weighs 10 g, with a 12% making charge, for a customer in the same state.
- 1 22K rate ₹1,00,000 × 91.6% ₹91,600 /10 g
- 2 Metal 10 g at ₹91,600 per 10 g ₹91,600
- 3 Making 12% of ₹91,600 ₹10,992
- 4 Before GST ₹91,600 + ₹10,992 ₹1,02,592
- 5 GST 3% CGST ₹1,539 + SGST ₹1,539 ₹3,078
- 6 Estimated price What the customer pays ₹1,05,670
For a customer in another state, GST is one line, IGST 3%: ₹3,078. The total stays ₹1,05,670.

Questions about gold prices
Metal value (weight × the rate for its karat), plus the making charge, plus 3% GST on both. The example above shows each step.
The jeweller's charge for making the piece. Shops charge it as a percentage of the metal value or as a flat amount, and it changes with the design and the shop. Ask your jeweller how they charge it.
Yes. The 3% GST is on the metal and the making charge together, not on the metal alone.
Each jeweller sets their own daily rate and making charge. A bill can also include stones, a hallmark charge or a discount, which this calculator leaves out.
Yes. Pick Silver. 999 and 925 silver use the same rate. Silver rates are per kg and the weight is in grams: at ₹1,00,000 a kg, silver is ₹100 a gram, so 25 g is ₹2,500 of metal before making and GST. The silver rate calculator also takes a rate per gram.
Choose “Other state”. GST then shows as one line, IGST 3%, instead of CGST + SGST. The total doesn't change.
