What 916, 750 and 585 mean
The hallmark number stamped on a piece names its karat: 916 is 22K, 750 is 18K, 585 is 14K and 375 is 9K. The number is how many parts in 1,000 are pure gold, so it also gives the rate: 22K = 24K × 91.6%, 18K × 75%, 14K × 58.5% and 9K × 37.5%. Each rate is rounded to the rupee.
