How it's worked out
How a silver price is worked out
Silver is priced by weight. The metal: weight in grams × the rate per gram, which is the rate per kg ÷ 1,000. The making charge: a % of the metal value, or a flat amount. And GST: 3% on metal and making together.
999 is fine silver, 99.9% pure. 925, or sterling silver, is 92.5% silver. This calculator uses one rate for both, as CaratOS does. If your jeweller quotes a separate rate for 925, type it as your own rate.
925 silver anklets · 50 g Worked example
An example, step by step
Say silver is ₹1,00,000 a kg (a round number, not today's rate). You're pricing a pair of 925 silver anklets that weigh 50 g, with a 12% making charge, for a customer in the same state.
- 1 Rate per gram ₹1,00,000 ÷ 1,000 g ₹100
- 2 Metal 50 g at ₹100 a gram ₹5,000
- 3 Making 12% of ₹5,000 ₹600
- 4 Before GST ₹5,000 + ₹600 ₹5,600
- 5 GST 3% CGST ₹84 + SGST ₹84 ₹168
- 6 Estimated price What the customer pays ₹5,768
For a customer in another state, GST is one line, IGST 3%: ₹168. The total stays ₹5,768.

Questions about silver prices
Weight in grams × the rate per gram, plus the making charge, plus 3% GST on both. The example above shows each step.
Divide by 1,000, since a kg is 1,000 g: ₹1,00,000 a kg is ₹100 a gram. You can type your rate per gram or per kg here; choose “My own rate”, then “per gram”.
Yes, 3%, the same as gold, on the metal and the making charge together. In the same state it shows as CGST 1.5% + SGST 1.5%. For a customer in another state, it is IGST 3%.
999 is fine silver, 99.9% pure, as in coins and bars. 925, called sterling silver, is 92.5% silver mixed with other metals to make it harder. This calculator prices both at one rate; if your jeweller has a separate rate for 925, choose “My own rate” and type it.
Hallmarking is voluntary for silver. Since 1 September 2025, a BIS silver hallmark shows the BIS mark with the word SILVER, the purity grade (such as 999 or 925) and a HUID code you can check in the BIS Care app.
Each jeweller sets their own silver rate and making charge. A bill can also include stones, a hallmark charge or a discount, which this calculator leaves out.
