CaratOS vs Vyapar for jewellery shops

The short difference

Vyapar is a billing, stock and accounting app used by many kinds of shops. Its jewellery page adds karat and purity, making charges, old gold, HUID on the bill, barcode labels, a weighing scale link and karigar job orders. Vyapar says on its home page that it is “Trusted by 1.5 Cr+ Indian Businesses”.

CaratOS is jewellery billing and shop management software and nothing else. Every screen starts from weight, purity and your rate for the day. It runs in the browser at app.caratos.co.in on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install.

Both are honest choices for a jewellery shop. Which one suits you depends on three things: whether you need to bill without internet, how much of your work is gold-specific (old gold, karigar, schemes, memo), and what you are ready to pay.

Where Vyapar is strong

• A free plan. Vyapar lists ₹0 plans on desktop and mobile, and its home page says mobile users get “a lifetime free plan with basic features”. CaratOS has no free plan.
• Works without internet. Vyapar’s jewellery page says it “works offline on both desktop and mobile devices” and syncs to the cloud when the connection is back. CaratOS needs internet today.
• Apps on your phone and computer. Vyapar says it is available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. CaratOS has no Android app; it runs in the browser.
• More languages. Vyapar’s home page shows “9+ Language Support”, listing Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and Kannada. CaratOS is in English and Hindi.
• A weighing scale link. Vyapar’s jewellery page says weight can be fetched from a scale connected by USB or Bluetooth. In CaratOS the scale goes straight into the bill on Growth.
• A lower starting price for paid desktop plans. Vyapar lists desktop Gold at ₹308 a month, billed yearly, plus 18% GST.

Where CaratOS is strong

• Made only for jewellers. Rates by karat, old gold, HUID, karigar jobs and a free CA login are the core of the product, not an add-on to a general billing app.
• Old gold on the same bill, on every plan. Weigh it, enter the tested purity, and CaratOS works out the fine weight, values it at your old-gold rate and takes it off what the customer pays. The old gold joins your old-gold stock.
• HUID on every bill line, carried from your stock. On Growth you can also check a HUID with BIS before you buy or sell a piece.
• Every person picks English or Hindi for their own screens, so a salesperson can bill in Hindi while you read reports in English.
• Split payments with a UPI QR for the exact amount, and the rest goes to the customer’s dues, with one-tap WhatsApp reminders.
• Jeweller work beyond billing. Karigar jobs on every plan; production stages, karigar pay and wastage, pieces on approval (memo), trade accounts in cash and metal, and savings schemes on Growth. Vyapar’s jewellery page does not mention approval memo or savings schemes.
• GST included in the price. Starter ₹1,199 a month, Growth ₹3,999 a month or ₹42,999 a year. Unlimited bills, stock and customers on every plan.

CaratOS vs Vyapar, side by side

Vyapar’s column uses only what Vyapar publishes on its own website, checked 1 November 2026. “Not published on its website” means we couldn’t find it on the pages we checked, not that Vyapar can’t do it. Ask Vyapar directly before you decide.

What both have to get right: GST and HUID

Whichever you pick, your bill must follow the same rules. Articles of jewellery (HSN 7113) carry 3% GST, as listed in the CBIC rate schedule and repeated in PIB’s note on eight years of GST. Within your state that is CGST plus SGST; for a customer from another state, IGST.

Since 1 April 2023, BIS-registered jewellers may sell only hallmarked gold jewellery that carries the 6-digit alphanumeric HUID (PIB, PIB). Check in the demo that the HUID comes from your stock to the bill without retyping.

Who should pick Vyapar

• You want to start without paying anything, and a free plan with basic features is enough for now.
• Your internet at the counter drops often and you must keep billing through it.
• You want an app on an Android phone or a Windows or Mac computer, not a browser.
• Your staff need a language other than English or Hindi.
• You also run a non-jewellery business and want one app for both.

Who should pick CaratOS

• Old gold exchange is a big part of your sales and you want it on the same bill, valued from tested purity, on every plan.
• You give work to karigars, send pieces on approval, or run a savings scheme, and want them in the same place as your bills (some on Growth).
• Your team is split between English and Hindi and each person should choose their own.
• You want your CA on a free read-only login, with Tally export, or live Tally sync on Growth.
• Your counter has steady internet, and you prefer a paid plan with GST included in the price over a free plan.

Moving from Vyapar to CaratOS

Help moving from Tally, Vyapar, Marg or Excel is included on every CaratOS plan. Here is how it usually goes:

1. Export from Vyapar. Take out your items, parties (customers) and their dues as an export or Excel sheet. Keep a copy of your old bills for your records.

2. Send it to us. We bring your stock, customers and dues across. Every row is shown to you before anything is added, with weights, purity and tag numbers that need a second look marked.

3. Set your rates and opening stock. Enter today’s gold and silver rates and check your opening stock against the trays.

4. Run both for a few days if you like. Make a few real bills in CaratOS, with old gold and a cash and UPI split, before you stop using the old app.

5. Give your CA their login. They get read-only access to the GST figures and the Tally export.

What CaratOS doesn’t do today

CaratOS doesn’t do girvi (gold loans), RFID or manufacturing bills of material. It has no Android app and runs online, so the counter needs internet; CaratOS Desktop is coming soon. There is no free plan, only a 15-day Starter trial on request, which starts when CaratOS approves it. If any of these matter more to you than the rest, Vyapar may suit you better today.
